SAN DIEGO, Calif. – After four days of competition, the Roger Williams University Sailing team ended the ICSA/Gill Coed Dinghy National Championship in 14
th place overall.
The Hawks began the second day of Nationals in 13
th place, needing to put together a very strong performance to get back into the hunt. Unfortunately for RWU, the team got off to a slow start and could not overcome the large deficit they were in.
Roger Williams finished the first race of the day with a 16
th place finish in A Division and taking 17
th in B Division. A Division would follow by placing 12
th in the next race, while B Division claimed fifth.
Both boats would finish in 17
th place in the third race of the day, before a seventh-place showing by B Division and an 18
th place finish by A Division.
In the following three races, A Division began to show some signs of improvement, rolling off finishes of sixth, eighth, and fourth. At B Division, the Hawks took 14
th before pulling off a win and placing ninth in their next two races.
RWU ended the championship with an eighth-place finish in the final B Division race, while A Division took 13
th.
Connor Corgard (Coon Rapids, Minn.),
Janel DeCurtis (Redondo Beach, Calif.), and
Sara Swanson (Charleston, S.C.)
Mackenzie Bryan (Christiansted, USVI), and
Breanne Baldino (Carlsbad, Calif.) all saw action during the day for RWU at A Division, They would finish in 14
th place via tiebreaker with Boston University. At B Division, Baldino,
Martim Anderson (Lisbon, Portugal),
Stewart Draheim (Royse City, Texas), and
Jake Bartlein (Santa Barbara, Calif.) sailed for RWU on the final day, earning 15
th place.
