Sailing takes seventh place at Coed Nationals

NEWPORT, R.I. - The Roger Williams University Sailing team concluded competition in the ICSA/Gill College Sailing Coed National Championship, finishing in seventh place overall.

The Hawks came out of the gate slow at A Division, beginning the day with a pair of 16^th-place finishes. RWU would follow up with a third-place race, a seventh, and an eighth-place showing. However, the team would stumble over the following two races, taking 16^th and 11^th place respectively. The Hawks then closed out the day placing eighth and 18^th in the final two races of the regatta.

At B Division, RWU began the day with a relatively better showing that A Division, opening with a ninth-place result and a fifth-place race. The Hawks would then take 14^th place in their following race before notching a pair of eight-place results. RWU ended the regatta in strong fashion, finishing in the top half of the final four races. B Division took seventh, then came through with its first win of the championship. In the final two races, the Hawks grabbed sixth place and eighth.

Yale won the Coed National Championship, winning by 69 points and finishing with its third national championship in two weeks.

Tyler Macdonald (Newport Beach, Calif.) and Breanne Baldino (Carlsbad, Calif.) sailed for RWU at A Division, finishing in 11^th place overall. . At B Division, Connor Corgard (Coon Rapids, Minn.), Stewart Draheim (Royse City, Texas), Abby Preston (Newport, R.I.), Michael McBrien (East Patchogue, N.Y.), and Wendy Reuss (Lakewood Ranch, Fla.) all saw action over the course of the championship, combining for a fourth-place finish in in the division.
