Sailing ends Team Race Nationals in sixth place

NEWPORT, R.I. – The Roger Williams University Sailing team concluded the LaserPerformance Team Race National Championships with a finish of sixth place.

Yale University won the Team Race National Championship after ending the weekend with an overall record of 21-4.

The Hawks began the third day of competition in fifth place, needing to move up one spot to advance the Final Four. The previous day saw Roger Williams compile a record of 6-4.

In the opening race of the final day of nationals, Roger Williams dropped its contest against St. Mary's College before coming back with a win over Yale. The Hawks handed Yale only its third loss of the entire weekend, as the Bulldogs entered the race with a 17-2 record.

Unfortunately for Roger Williams, that would be the team's final victory of the championship, as the Hawks would drop races to Stanford University and Georgetown University to end the weekend at 14-8.

Roger Williams fell just two wins shy of qualifying for the Final Four, with the College of Charleston clinching the final spot with a record of 16-6.

Competing for the Hawks on the weekend were Tyler Macdonald (Newport Beach, Calif.), Connor Corgard (Coon Rapids, Minn.), Dylan Vogel (Jamestown, R.I.), Breanne Baldino (Carlsbad, Calif.), Abby Preston (Newport, R.I.), and Wendy Reuss (Lakewood Ranch, Calif.).

Roger Williams will compete in the Coed National Semifinal Championship on June 1-2 for a chance to move on to the ICSA/Gill Coed Dinghy National Championship on June 3-4.
