Men's Soccer holds successful Alumni Game

BRISTOL, R.I. – The Roger Williams University Men's Soccer team held its annual Alumni Game this past Saturday, with strong participation from both current and former Hawks.

The 2012 annual Alumni Game provided a fitting completion to the spring segment of the 2011-12 Men's Soccer schedule. It was also the first time the game was being played on the new turf field.

The first half of the game was fast and furious and pretty evenly played. The RWU varsity team led 3-1 at the half with two goals coming from 2011 leading scorer sophomore Trevor Hoxsie, and a single goal from freshman Tyler Sharby. The lone goal for the alumni squad was scored by Paul Alzapiedi '98, the program's second all-time leading scorer.

The second half saw the varsity take advantage of the alumni team's lack of fitness. The varsity received goals from freshmen Andrew Carlson and Cooper Allebrand, sophomore Ben Rondinone, and a 3rd goal from Hoxsie to jump out to a 7-1 lead. The alumni team made a final thrust with two goals from Tim Amato '03 and soon-to-be alum Liam Isleib, a graduating senior. Isleib and senior teammate Nick Malatestinic played the first half with the varsity team before moving over to the alumni squad. The final score of the game was 7-3.

Ian Poole '05 was recognized as the alum traveling the furthest, as he is currently living in Colorado. Eight of the alumni playing in the game came from the class of 2007 or earlier. The alumni were treated to brunch prior to the game courtesy of the Alumni Office. Alzapiedi and Amato were recognized as the top alumni players in the game.
