BRISTOL, R.I. – The Roger Williams University Men's and Women's Track & Field teams are gearing up for the ECAC Championship this Thursday and Friday, sending seven athletes between both teams to the meet.
On the men's side, Steven Carnevale (Easton, Mass.) and Emil Pornelos (Hartford, Vt.) will represent the Hawks at ECACs, with Carnevale competing in the 800 Meter Run and Pornelos in the Discus Throw.
Carnevale claimed his berth via a seventh-place performance at the New England Championships two weekends ago with a school-record time of 1:52.99. Pornelos clinched his spot last month at the Northeastern University Invitational, taking fourth with a throw of 43.97 meters.
For the women, Megan Breault (Agawam, Mass.) will compete in the 100 Meter High Hurdles, and Hannah Zydanowicz (Newington, Conn.) in the 1500 Meter Run. In the 4x800 Meter Relay, Zydanowicz will team with Alexandra Honkala (South Royalton, Vt.), Lauren Riccardi (Reading, Mass.), and Nina Groseclose (Baltimore, Md.).
Breault's 15.38-second win at the Corsair Invitational at the University of Massachusetts-Dartmouth earned her a spot at this week's championships. Zydanowicz earned her berth at the New
England Championships, taking 8th with a time of 4:41.50. The relay team won at the Silfen Invitational at Connecticut College back in April with a time of 10:01.79 to punch their ticket to ECACs.
Breault will compete in the hurdles on Thursday, followed by the rest of the Hawks in action on Friday.
