Amherst knocks Men's Tennis out of NCAA Tournament

AMHERST, Mass. – The Roger Williams University Men's Tennis team had their season come to a close Saturday afternoon at the hands of Amherst College, with the Lord Jeffs winning the NCAA Regional Tournament Second Round match by a score of 0-5.

The Lord Jeffs took the three doubles matches to take 3-0 lead. Austin Chafetz and Luis Rattenhuber won 8-1 over Jeff DeNunzio (Barrington, R.I.) and Dan Kleitz (Wethersfield, Conn.) at #1, followed by an 8-3 win by Moritz Koenig and Wes Waterman against Kevin Erikson (Tolland, Conn.) and Spencer Withington (Plymouth, Mass.) at #2. Mark Kahan and Chris Dale took the final match by an 8-2 score over Nicholas Hawvermale (Bethlehem, Conn.) and Jason Pacino (North Reading, Mass.)

At singles play, Kahan defeated Erikson 6-0, 6-1 at #2 while Chafetz beat Kleitz 6-0, 6-1 at #3. The remaining four singles matches were not completed as Amherst picked up the victory after compiling five wins on the day.

Amherst will host The College of New Jersey in the Regional Final on Sunday at 2:00 p.m. Roger Williams concludes its season with a record of 18-7.
