Men's and Women's Swimming and Diving win Snowball Invitational

BRISTOL, R.I. – The Roger Williams University Men's and Women's Swimming and Diving teams won the Snowball Invitational.  The men's team totaled 856 points, while the women had 695.5 points.

The Hawks kicked off the invitational on Friday night by winning the 200 Free Relay in both the women's and men's races.  The women followed up with a 1-2-3 performance in the 500 Free behind Lauren Marchese (Hillsborough, N.J.) (5:46.56), Olivia Matthes (West Islip, N.Y.) (5:52.03), and Sarah Mamula (Madison, Conn.) (6:02.75).  The men would claim the top eight spot in the 10-man field behind Tim Ragan's (Topsfield, Mass.) time of 5:01.95.

The University of New England's Jenn LaComfora (Worcester, Mass.) won the 200 IM with a time of 2:19.77.  Teammate Lizzie Wareham (Osterville, Mass.) won the 50 Free with a time of 25.28. The Nor'Easters also won the women's 400 Medley Relay with a time of 4:16.47.

On the men's side, the Hawks' Phillip Jacques (Durham, Maine) won the 200 IM in 2:02.26.  The Hawks took the top three spots in the 50 Free behind Peter Walerysiak (Bristol, Conn.) (22.82), Zachary Gillespie (New Preston, Conn.) (22.92), and Christian Moran (Seekonk, Mass.) (23.11).  The Hawks concluded the evening with a victory in the 400 Medley Relay in 3:43.81.

In second day action, Jacques swam out in front in the 400 IM with a time of 4:28.81 as well as the 200 Backstroke in 1:57.76. Ragan, also a multi-event winner for the Hawks, won the men's 200 Free in 1:48.55 and 1650 Free in 17:39.72.  Walerysiak paced the field in the 100 Free at 49.73.

UNE's Wareham swam the 100 Butterfly in 1:00.90 for the victory and would later follow it up with the top time in the 100 Free at 55.17. Teammate LaComfora won the 200 Breaststroke in 2:17.39.  UNE had a strong showing in breaststroke with Sara Shea taking the both the women's 100 and 200 yard races, in 1:11.60 and 2:33.16 respectively.  While Zach Wagner paced the men with times of 1:00.65 and 2:19.09 in the 100 and 200, respectively.

Colby-Sawyer's Travis Dennison picked up the first win for the Chargers with 56.06 in the men's 100 Fly.  Teammate Krystyna Estrada would make it back-to-back races for the Chargers winning the women's 200 Free in 2:06.19.

The Roger Williams University Men's and Women's Swimming and Diving teams will concluded their first semester schedules with a dual meet at Keene State on Saturday, December 10.
