Equestrian takes second place at home show

PORTSMOUTH, R.I. – The Roger Williams University Equestrian team continued its stellar start to the 2011-12 season with a runner-up finish at the Roger Williams University/Brown University Show on Saturday afternoon.

Lyndsey Burns (Newtown, Conn.) had another strong day for the Hawks, winning both Open Fences and Open Flat to earn a spot in a ride off against Kayla Prefontaine from the University of Rhode Island. With a win against Prefontaine, Burns finished the show as High Point Rider of the Day. In addition, she has qualified for Regionals in Open Fences, having won all of her fences classes since she began showing with RWU. She also moved past Prefontaine into first place for the Cacchione Cup with 47 points.

Also qualifying for Regionals was Rachael Asadorian (East Greenwich, R.I.) in Novice Fences. Asadorian took third place in the division and will represent Roger Williams at Regionals in Novice Fences and Novice Flat.

Chelsea Weiner (Syosset, N.Y.) was the third Hawk to qualify for Regionals on the weekend, earning a win at Intermediate Fences to earn her second straight berth to Regionals.

Erin DeMarco (Florence, Vt.) and Alexandra Pastor (Westhampton, Mass.) also earned wins for the Hawks on the day, getting wins at Novice Fences and Intermediate Fences, respectively. Jacqui Allred (Paoli, Pa.) notched a runner-up finish at Open Fences, while Maddie Stein (Easton, Conn.) and Rebecca Pettit (Delanson, N.Y.) took second at Intermediate Flat and Advanced Walk-Trot-Canter, respectively.

Roger Williams will be at the Zone 1 Region 1 Competition this Saturday.
