Chargers get the sweep over Baseball

NEW LONDON, N.H. - The Colby-Sawyer baseball team posted two come from behind victories to earn back to back wins over Roger Williams University. The Chargers won the first game with late inning heroics from Chris Hartery and Greg Mehuron to post a 3-2 victory and exploded for a seven run third inning en route to a 10-5 victory over the guest Hawks in game two.

 

The Chargers fell behind 2-0 when Roger Williams' Grant Bolin (Simsbury, Conn.) hit a two run home run in the top of the third inning. Senior Chris Hartery tied the game in the bottom of the sixth with a two run home run. Colby-Sawyer capped off the comeback in the bottom of the seventh when Cameron Knight led off with a double and scored two batters later when Greg Mehuron singled up the middle for the game winning hit. Mike Bertuccio pitched a complete game, allowing two runs on seven hits and striking out five.

 

Billy Dunn (Fiskdale, Mass.) took the loss, allowing the winning run in 0.2 innings. Stephen McKernan (Grafton, Mass.) went 2-for-3 in the game with a run scored.

 

In game two, Roger Williams jumped out to an early 4-0 lead but the Charger bats exploded in the bottom of the third to score seven runs. In the inning, Chris Hartery hit two triples, Cameron Knight had a double and two RBI's, Brandon McFadden and Tyler Stotz each had a double and an RBI. Ryan Gillan pitched four innings allowing only one run off four hits and striking out five.

 

Josh Orosz (Fairfield, Conn.) allowed six runs on eight hits in the loss. Zach Porter (Middleboro, Mass.) finished 2-for-4 with two runs scored, while Matthew Roche (Bristol, Conn.) had a pair of hits with an RBI.

 

The Chargers return to action on April 3 when they travel to Worcester, Mass. to play Nichols College. Roger Williams will be at Endicott College Saturday afternoon.
