WESTON, Mass. Facing the cold weather Roger Williams University (19-14, 11-7 TCCC) defeated Regis College (7-26, 4-12 TCCC) 5-0 and 8-6 in doubleheader action Friday afternoon.

In the first game, Samantha Teves (Somerset, Mass.), Lauren Tierney (Middleboro, Mass.), and Michelle Caprice (Oak Ridge, N.J.) each went 2-4 at the plate against Regis pitcher Kendra Abram (Acushnet, Mass.).

Caprice also posted two runs in game one for the Hawks. She scored the teams first run with a single in the third inning. As a team Roger Williams posted 21 putouts, with Tierney having a team-high 10.

Roger Williams’ pitcher Jaclyn Doolin (Miller Place, N.Y.) pitched a complete game allowing just one hit, one walk, and striking out nine Regis batters.

Offensively Regis could not get the bat on the ball. Regis’ Hope Benjamin (Rochester, Mass.) had the Pride’s only hit of the game.

Kerry Burke (Old Saybrook, Conn.), Melissa Sereti (Shrewsbury, Mass.) and Teves posted the Hawks’ only runs batted in.

In the second game, Benjamin and Amanda Carlson (Ayer, Mass.) scored Regis’ first two runs of game two. Carlson went 1-3, scoring one run, and had three putouts for the Pride.

The Hawks started off the top of the third inning determined to finish the game on top. Freshman Laura McConnell (Lexington, Mass.) tallied Roger Williams’ first run, reaching base on an error.

Sarah Grill (Watervliet, N.Y.) and Caprice would reach base on a single and double respectively. Each would score runs, giving the Haws a 3-2 lead over Regis.

The two programs would battle through the next two innings. The Hawks would add two more runs in the fifth inning, until Regis tied the game at 5-all.

Regis’ Abram would just miss the strike zone against two Hawks batters, loading the bases, and scoring the extra runner that started the extra-inning on second base.

The Pride battled in the bottom of the eighth, but popped its first three hits in the air giving the Hawks an easy play on the ball.

Regis College will return to the field April 18 to host conference foe Curry College. Roger Williams will travel to Nichols College on the same day. Both games are slated for 1:00 p.m. starts.
