NORTH DARTMOUTH, Mass. – Five broken school records helped propel the Roger Williams University Women’s Track & Field team to a third-place finish at the Corsair Invitational Saturday afternoon, hosted by UMass-Dartmouth.
Katelyn Kotfila (Falmouth, Mass.) set the new mark in the Hammer Throw with a distance of 102’ 8”, good for fifth place overall. Kristen Metcalf (Londonderry, N.H.) also broke the previous RWU record in the 200-Meter dash, coming in second overall at a time of 26.43. Maggie Blinn (Billerica, Mass.) had the third record of the day, finishing third in the 400-Meter Hurdles in 1:11.1.
The time of 17.66 in the 100-Meter Hurdles placed Kathryn Swanson (Stoneham, Mass.) in eighth in the event, en route to another RWU record. The fifth record of the day came in the 4X400 Relay, where the Hawks took second overall with a time of 4:14.64.
Lauren Ashby (Manchester, N.H.) also earned her first collegiate win in the 3000-Meter Steeplechase, clearing the course in 13:13.68. Also for the Hawks, Katie O'Koren (Franklin, Mass.) grabbed third place in the 800-Meter Run with a time of 2:30.08
In addition to their record-breaking performances, Kotfila and Metcalf also pulled off a pair of runner-up finishes in the Javelin and 400-Meter Dash, respectively. Kotfila threw for a distance of 111’ 8”, while Metcalf crossed the finish line in 1:01.34.
“This was a very good meet for the women today with their best team finish in a major invitational this year,” said Head Coach Sean Livingston. “It was a very windy day, which no doubt affected performances. Yet despite that, five school records were set and others still were able to set personal bests.”
