NORTHAMPTON, Mass. — The Roger Williams University Women’s Tennis team fell to Smith College 7-2 in their non-conference matchup on Saturday in the second match of a doubleheader.
For the hosts, sophomore Clair Oblamski (Elm Grove, W.I.), junior Margaret Steiner (Madison, C.T.), freshman Rachel Canfora (Chicago, I.L.), and junior Nawal Mays (Niskayuna, N.Y.) each secured victories in singles.
RWU junior Leah Ribchinsky (Ivoryton, Conn.) defeated Nicole Anderson (Sherborn, Mass.) by the score of 7-6, (8-6), 11-2. The Hawks’ second singles victory came from sophomore Amanda Wolfe (Mansfield, Mass.) who beat her opponent by 6-1, 2-6, 9-7.
Smith College swept all three doubles competitions, led off by Jaimi Inskeep (Warrenville, I.L.) and Alanna Dick (Winthrop, M.E.) who beat their opponents 8-0. Steiner and Nicole Anderson (Sherborn, Mass.) also posted an impressive score (8-1) in their set versus two Roger Williams’ veterans. By a score of 8-2 Oblamski and partner Eunice Zhao (Las Vegas, N.V.) secured Smith’s victory against the Hawks.
This win puts the Pioneers at 9-11 overall as they look forward to facing Trinity College and Union College next at home on April 17th. Roger Williams (9-8) takes on Springfield College next at the home of the Pride on Thursday.
