Men's Swimming and Diving Team defeats Trinity
BRISTOL, R.I. - The Men's Swimming and Diving Team traveled to Hartford, Conn., Saturday to face Trinity College where the Hawks emerged with a 181-115 victory, improving their record to 7-1.
RWU jumped out to the early lead, taking first and second in their first event, the 400-yard Medley Relay. Trinity bounced back, taking first and second in the 1000-yard Freestyle event, before the Hawks went on the take first place in the next nine events.
Junior Dale Dubinsky (Plantsville, Conn.) began that win-streak with his first-place finish at 1:51.18 in the 200-yard Freestyle.
Freshman Phillip Jacques (Durham, Maine) took first in the 50-yard Backstroke with a time of 25.90 and also won the 200-yard Backstroke, touching the wall at 2:00.21. He went on to take first place in the 200-yard Individual Medley with a time of 2:09.61.
Senior Chris Andersen (Shapleigh, Maine) won the 50 and the 200-yard Breastroke events, finishing at 28.74 and 2:21.49, respectively.
Freshman Philip Green (Langhorne, Pa.) defeated his closest competitor by nearly eight seconds in the 200-yard Butterfly, finishing in 2:05.53.
Sophomore Peter Walerysiak (Bristol, Conn.) outreached teammate Kyle Bowie (Keene, N.H.) to take the 50-yard Freestyle race at 22.99, while Bowie finished at 23.00. Wlerysiak also eeked out victory in the 100-yard Freestyle race, posting a time of 50.19, just 0.28 ahead of Dubinsky.
On the diving board, senior Joseph Mello (Seekonk, Mass.) continued the Hawks’ strong day, registering a score of 281.17 on the 1-meter board – good for first place. He also took first on the 3-meter board with a time of 321.60.
Trinity stopped the Hawks’ first-place streak in 500-yard Freestyle, but it would prove too late as RWU went on to win its eighth-straigh meet, including its first-place finish in the TCCC Invitational. The Hawks are now 7-1 in dual meets this season.
The team now prepares for the New England Championships Feb. 19-21 at the Upper Valley Aquatic Center in White River Junction, Vt.
