Springfield, Mass. – Members of the Roger Williams Wrestling Team competed in the New England Futures Tournament Sunday at Springfield College. Three Hawks placed among the top four in their weight class, while three others posted strong 2-2 records on the day.
Sophomores Kevin Edward (Bayport, N.Y.) and Kyle D'Urso (Londonderry, N.H.) both posted 4-1 records at the 149 and 157 weight classes, respectively. Their strong performances secured third place for them both in the tournament.
Another sophomore, Ryan Lefaivre (Cumberland R.I.), posted a team-high five wins on the day. He finished with a 5-2 record in the 165 weight class to take fourth place.
Wrestling at 149, freshman Jack DiBurro (Haverhill, Mass.) reached the semifinals before falling and defaulting out with a final record of 2-2. Also recording 2-2 records on the day were juniors John Paul Garlasco (Granby, Conn.) and Jonathan Lemoine (Trumbull, Conn.), wrestling at 184 and 125, respectively.
The wrestling team returns to Springfield, Mass. next weekend to compete at Western New England College in the New England Division III Championships beginning Saturday at 10:30 a.m.
