Mello named RWU Male Athlete of the Week

BRISTOL, R.I. – Roger Williams University men’s swimming and diving team member Joseph Mello (Seekonk, Mass.) was named RWU Male Athlete of the Week after qualifying Saturday for the NCAA Division III National Championships in the 3-meter diving competition.
The Hawks hosted the University of New England Saturday afternoon in the campus Recreation Center Aquatic Center, defeating the visiting Nor’Easters 199.5-48.5. Mello helped the Hawks to victory earning nine points for his team on both the 1-meter and 3-meter diving boards. His score of 290.32 on the 3-meter board qualifies him to compete at Nationals, March 17-20, at the University Aquatic Center on the University of Minnesota campus in Minneapolis, Minn.
Mello and the Hawks are back in action Tuesday when they travel to Wenham, Mass., to face Gordon College beginning at 5 p.m.
