Men's Rugby opens 2009 with 25-5 win
BUZZARDS BAY, Mass. – The Roger Williams University Men’s Rugby team began the 2009 season with a 25-5 win over Massachusetts Maritime Academy Friday evening.
Roger Williams went up 5-0 against Mass Maritime early in the first half. The remainder of the half, the Hawks had difficulty taking advantage of scoring positions, turning the ball over frequently in the Buccaneers’ end of the field. Following the half, Mass Maritime scored on a miss fielded kick by a Hawk fullback. Roger Williams’ forwards dominated the remainder of the game, holding strong defensively and running with ease. The Hawks scored three more tries, one conversion, and a penalty kick.
Roger Williams will travel to take on Salve Regina University Sunday, September 27 at 1:00 p.m.
