BRISTOL, R.I.- The Roger Williams University Baseball team placed four players onto the 2009 All-TCCC Baseball Team, announced today by The Commonwealth Coast Conference. Junior shortstop Grant Bolin (Simsbury, Conn.) earned a spot on the All-TCCC First Team.
Bolin currently ranks second on the team with a .361 batting average, having played in all 37 of the Hawks’ games this season. His 44 hits is tied for the team lead and his .664 slugging percentage is tops on the team along with his eight home runs and 13 doubles. He’s also assisted on 104 putouts, 33 more than any other Hawk.
Senior first baseman Alex Perry (Glastonbury, Conn.) was named to the All-TCCC Second Team. Offensively, Perry ranks second on the Hawks with a .573 slugging percentage and third with a .350 batting average in 117 at bats. His 41 hits ranks third, helping him knock in a team-best 36 RBI. In the field he’s gathered 240 putouts and boasts a .977 fielding percentage with only six errors in 35 games.
Earning TCCC Honorable Mention were senior Captains Brian Hurld (South Boston, Mass.) and Jamie Dahill (South Boston, Mass.). On the mound, Hurld led the Hawks with a 6-1 win-loss record, allowing just 6 walks and 11 earned runs in 50.2 innings pitched. He leads the team with 38 strikeouts and a low earned-run average of 1.95.
Dahill either ranks first or is tied for first on RWU with a .373 batting average, 30 runs scored, 44 hits, 15 walks, and a .449 on-base percentage. Defensively, he’s been charged with just one error and has recorded 58 putouts. Throughout his career he has collected over 200 hits – more than any previous Hawk and he also stands as the all-time leader doubles and at-bats.
The Hawks look to keep their playoff hopes alive as they host seventh-seeded Nichols College, Thursday, at 3 p.m. A win will advance the team to a Saturday contest at Western New England College where the Hawks must sweep a doubleheader to advance into the championship game.
