BRISTOL, R.I. – The RWU women's swimming and diving team posted a fourth-place finish at the 2009 NEISDA Championships, concluding Sunday at Umass-Dartmouth. The Hawks were just 11 points shy of finishing in the top three.
Keene State College won the championship with 910 points totaled over the course of three days. Bentley University placed second with 830 points and Saint Michael's College rounded out the top three with 523 points.
Junior Brigid Houlihan (Nahant, Mass.) finished the 1650 Yard Freestyle in a time of 19:19.44 to take sixth place and earn 18 points for the Hawks. In the next event, RWU again took sixth-place, as freshman Sarah Beron (North Providence, R.I.) registered a time of 30.42 in the 50 Yard Backstroke.
In an exciting 200 Yard Butterfly sophomore Caitlin O'Connor (Wallingford, Conn.) took sixth place with a time of 2:22.00, getting edged out by .01 second for fifth and .12 seconds for fourth.
Senior Cara Naylor (Windsor, Conn.) totaled an impressive 355.90 on the 3 Meter Board to earn 22 points with second place, edging out third place by .40.
