BRISTOL, R.I. - The 2009 season has come to a close for the Roger Williams University Men’s Cross Country team. The team had another very successful campaign, and was able to capture the team’s ninth consecutive title in The Commonwealth Coast Conference.
Leading the team every step of the way was three standouts on the team. Freshman Mitch Leveille (North Kingstown, R.I.), junior Jonathan Ellis (Yonkers, N.Y.) and junior Thomas Maybury (East Longmeadow, Mass.) were constantly at the front of the pack in every race. Leveille was named TCCC Rookie of the year for his efforts. Also receiving All-Conference honors were Ellis, Maybury and Andrew Gallant (Merrimac, Mass.).
On two occasions the TCCC recognized Ellis as the Runner of the Week early in the season. Also being recognized were Jeff Pini (Wellesley, Mass.) and Leveille as they were named Rookie of the Week once each during the season.
At the TCCC Championships held in Springfield, Mass. at Western New England College, the team was able to capture its ninth consecutive conference title behind a strong all around team effort. Leveille, Ellis and Maybury finished second, third and fourth to lead the team to victory. Following that, the team was able to place 23rd in a field of 48 teams at the Division III Regional Qualifiers in Cumberland, Maine.
The team says good-bye to five seniors, and thanks them for their efforts throughout their time at RWU. Good luck to Michael Russo (Westmoreland, N.H.), Todd Massari (Hamden, Conn.), Stephen Leonetti (Woodbury, Conn.), and team Co-Captains Timothy Eynatian (Chelmsford, Mass.) and Christopher Disciullo (Medford, Mass.).
