BRISTOL, R.I. – The Roger Williams University Men’s Swimming and Diving team defeated Bridgewater State College by a score of 133-107 on Saturday afternoon. The win makes it for in a row for the Hawks while the visitors drop to 1-3 on the season.
The home team got things started on the right foot as they swept the 400-yd Medley relay, with the team of Tim Ragan (Topsfield, Mass.), Chris Andersen (Shapleigh, Maine), Peter Walerysiak (Bristol, Conn.), and Teddy Swanson (Glastonbury, Conn.) placing first with a time of 3:51.22. Another event which saw the Hawks go first through third was the 200-yd Freestyle as Cory Pellegren (Winchester Center, Conn.) took the top spot. The 50-yd Backstroke saw Phillip Jacques (Durham, Maine) finish first, Philip Green (Langhorne, Pa.) finished first in the 200-yd butterfly, Jeremy Siegel (West Deptford, N.J.) won the 500-yd Free event, and Joseph Mello (Seekonk, Mass.) took first in both the 1M and 3M Diving. Also winning their events and scoring points toward the total team score were Austin Kelly (Austin, Conn.) in the 400-yd IM and the 400-yd Freestyle team of Andersen, Walerysiak, Kyle Bowie (Keene, Conn.) and Kevin Danaher (Watertown, Conn.).
For the visitors, Luis Silva (Gloucester, Mass.) scored points for the team as he took both the 200-yd Backstroke and the 50-yd Butterfly. Also scoring points towards the team total in the 50-yd Breaststroke were Matt Brown (Burlington, Mass.), John Rodriguez (Worcester, Mass.), and Josh Mattson (Taunton, Mass.).
The Hawks improve to 4-1 on the year while the Bears record now stands at 1-3. Up next for Bridgewater State is Elms College on December 4th, while the Hawks are in the pool again at the Commonwealth Coast Conference Invite which will be at Home on the fourth and fifth of December. The meet is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. on Friday, and again at 10 a.m. on Saturday.
