Women’s Swimming and Diving Downs Regis for First Win of Season

BRISTOL, R.I. - The Roger Williams University Women's Swimming and Diving defeated the hosts from Regis College on Saturday by a score of 121-51 as the Hawks put on an impressive performance in their third meet of the season.  The Hawks improve to 1-2 as they were able to get their first win of the season.

 

Starting the day off right, the Hawks were able to sweep the 200-yd Medley Relay coming in first and second.  The team of Jacqui Cohen (Commack, N.Y.), Lauren Marchese (Hillsborough, N.J.), Marissa Carr (Arlington, Mass.), and Marrisa Soucy (Mount Vernon, N.H.) turned in a time of 2:10.08 just behind the winning team from RWU composed of Melly Marrington (Farmington, Conn.), Kelly Meacham (Southington, Conn.), Caitlin O'Connor (Wallingford, Conn.), and Casey Meagher (Billerica, Mass.) who finished in a time of 2:04.43.  Andrea Dewitt (Nashua, N.H.) swam the 1000-yd Freestyle event and won the race earning points towards the team total.  Marrington, Carr and Sarah Mamula (Madison, Conn.) went first, second, and third in the 200-yd free scoring points for the team.  In the 50-yd Freestyle Ursula Nickerson (Torrington, Conn.) and teammate Lindsey Cruff (Newington, Conn.) went first and second, and the same happened in the Women's 1M Diving event as Laura Folsom (Simsbury, Conn.) and Meacham finished first and second respectively.  The Hawks also swept the 100-yd Butterfly as Marrington placed first, Nickerson second, and Olivia Matthes (West Islip, N.Y.) came in third.  The 200-yd Individual Medley was won by Ashley Kichline (Souderton, Pa.) and in third place for the Hawks was Meacham, followed by Soucy in fourth.  The 100-yd Freestyle event saw Marchese finish second, Joanna Tchobanova (Brewster, N.Y.) place third, and Soucy finish in fourth.  Another event that the Hawks took first through third was the 100-yd Backstroke where Lauren Gosnell (Norwell, Mass.) was victorious, Celine Rivera took second, and O'Connor took third.

 

With the win the Hawks improve to 1-2 overall.  They will next be in action at the M.I.T. Relays in Cambridge, Mass. on Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
