SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Five members of the Roger Williams University Women’s Soccer team were recognized for their efforts during the 2009 season with All-TCCC honors. The Hawks had a strong season, finishing in third overall with a record of 11-5-3 and 9-3-1 in the TCCC. Three of the women were named to the first team and two members received honorable mention recognition.
Being named to the All-TCCC first team were Laurin Pendleton (Southwick, Mass.), Michelle Meagher (Sudbury, Mass.) and Jen Garside (Londonderry, N.H.). Pendleton was the team’s leading scorer and third in the TCCC with 17 goals, one assist for a total of 35 points. Meagher, a Sophomore, was the team’s defensive backbone starting all 19 games the team played and picking up an assist along the way. Another crucial member of the defense was Goalkeeper Jen Garside. The Senior Co-Captain started 18 games, had a goals against average of 1.33 as she surrendered 22 goals, recorded 64 saves and had an overall record of 10-5-2 with three shutouts.
Also being recognized for their efforts and outstanding play were Amanda daCunha (Wethersfield, Mass.) and Julie Moody (Plymouth, Mass.) who both achieved All-TCCC Honorable Mention status. DaCunha started all 19 games and was a consistent midfielder, picking up six assists during the season. Moody was another key ingredient to the Hawks backfield as she also started all 19 games and had one assist on the season.
On Saturday the Hawks suffered a crushing defeat at the hands of Western New England College as the two teams battled through regulation and overtime, before the Golden Bears eventually got the victory after Penalty Kicks were taken.
