Wrestling team ranks among nation's best

BRISTOL, R.I.- The National Wrestling Coaches Association announced its national rankings today, placing RWU Wrestling 29th among all Division III teams across the U.S. In its individual rankings, RWU junior Nick Cambi (Cohasset, Mass.) ranked eighth nationally in the 197 weight class.

The Hawks are off to a great start this 2009-10 season, beginning with a convincing 27-15 road win at Norwich University, Oct. 31. The following weekend RWU travelled to Ithaca, N.Y. for the annual Ithaca College Invitational featuring numerous nationally ranked teams. RWU totaled 83.5 points to take sixth-place amongst the 10 teams.

RWU continued its strong performance this past weekend, winning the 11-team RWU Invitational Championship. Seven Hawks placed in the tournament helping the team to 128 points, just two ahead of second place and three ahead of third place.

Cambi has performed well throughout the season, including a championship in Ithaca. Cambi posted a perfect 4-0 record that weekend. At the RWU Invitational Cambi finished 3-1 on the day, falling only in the championship bout, 3-0, to 2008-09 All-American Joe Silverman of MIT.

With Cambi's win at Norwich and because MIT's wrestling team is not an NCAA Varsity team, he currently stands undefeated on the season, 8-0, including two wins by fall.

The No. 29 Hawks defend their ranking Wednesday when they begin Pilgrim League competition against the U.S. Coast Guard Academy. The home match begins at 7:30 p.m.
