Sailing Team Places Ninth at Atlantic Coast Championships

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The Roger Williams University Sailing Team hit the waters in Cambridge, Mass. on Saturday for the NEISA Atlantic Coast Championships hosted by Harvard.  There were ten races run on Saturday, and a lack of wind on Sunday caused those results to stand as no races were run on Sunday.  The team managed to accumulate 176 points which was good for ninth overall in the regatta.

Saturday's conditions provided for 4-12 knots of wind from the East, the remnants of Ida with plenty of rain.  Ten races were run in both the “A” and “B” divisions.  The Hawks qualified for this event after placing second at the 68th Erwin Schell Trophy last month.  The team of Cy Thompson (St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands ) and Kelly Stannard (Salem, Conn.) finished 10th overall in the “A” Division with 103 points.  They had one win and two additional top five finishes to earn points towards the overall score.  In the “B” division, Jonathan Enright (Bristol, R.I.) and Adrienne White (Duxbury, Mass.) recorded 73 points as they had six top-five finishes on their way to a fifth place finish in the division.  The combined score of 176 points put them in ninth place overall when Saturday's racing was completed, and did not have an opportunity to move up on Sunday as there were no races conducted.

This regatta marks the end of the fall season for the Hawks.  They look to continue the with the success that they already have had in the spring time when the season resumes.  The schedule for the spring is yet to be released.
