Equestrian Team Places Eighth at UConn Show

STORRS, Conn. – On Saturday The Roger Williams University Equestrian team competed at the University of Connecticut Show at the UConn Equestrian Facility in Storrs, Conn.  The team earned thirteen points and placed eighth out of the ten teams participating.  Leading the team were A. Courtney Levitsky (Phoenixville, Pa.) and Kayla Waskiewicz (Bristol, R.I.) who won their respective divisions.

Levitsky would get the victory in the Novice Fences division, while teammate Samantha Taylor (Essex Junction, Vt.) would finish right behind her in second.  Also competing were Alexandra Pastor (Westhampton, N.Y.) and Jacqui Allred (Paoli, Pa.) who would finish in fifth and sixth places respectively.  In the Open Fences competition, Waskiewicz was the top finisher for the team in second place while Shannon O’Keefe (Glastonbury, Conn.) and Amelia Stasny (Bernardston, Mass.) would tie for fourth place.

The Novice Flat Division saw three Hawks tie for second place.  Equal scores were recorded by Brittany Cornell (Rowley, Mass.),  Allred and Levitsky.  Also placing was Pastor in third and Karen Quinn (Berkely, Mass.) in seventh.  In the Intermediate Division, Chelsea Weiner (Syosset, N.Y.) finished in second place, Alyssa Schankman (Newtown, Conn.) placed fourth and Olivia Cornell (Rowley, Mass.) and Alice Bueno (Coco Del Panama, San Francisco, Panama) would tie for sixth.  The Hawks went first and second in the Open Flat Division as Waskiewicz would get the victory with O’Keefe finishing in the runner-up position.

Roger Williams had two participants in the Walk Trot Canter grouping.  Melissa Berger (Delmar, N.Y.) placed third while teammate Danielle Stucchi (Framingham, Mass.) finished in fifth.  The Beginning Walk Trot Canter category would end with Kyle Alexander (Tolland, Conn.) placing second while Miranda Downing (Chestnut Hill, Mass.) finished in third, Amy Silvia (Walpole, Mass.) took fourth and Riana Fortin (Warren, R.I.) would end the day in fifth.  The Final event for the show was the Advanced Walk Trot Canter where Abby Hanc (South Hadley, Mass.) and Cara McSoley (Essex Junction, Vt.) would tie for third, Emily Pammett (Groton, Mass.) took home fourth and Margaret Hanvey (Port Jefferson, N.Y.) and Erin DeMarco (Florence, Vt.) would tie for fifth.

The Wesleyan University Show marks the culmination of the fall season for the Equestrian Team.  They will continue with the 2009-10 season in the spring, the schedule has not yet been released.
