WORCESTER, Mass.- The Roger Williams University Men’s Swimming and Diving team continued their winning streak as they defeated the team from Clark University on Saturday afternoon. The team posted a score of 152 points compared to the hosts who earned 91 points on the day to get the victory.
The Hawks got things off on the right foot with the 400-yd Medley relay in which they placed first and third. The “A” team of Phillip Jacques (Durham, Maine), Mike Carlucci (Danbury, Conn.), Chris Andersen (Shapleigh, Maine) and Peter Walerysiak (Bristol, Conn.) turned in a time of 3:45.5 to get the victory while the “B” team consisting of Peter Demary (Chelmsford, Mass.), Jeremy Siegel (West Deptford, N.J.), Philip Green (Langhorne, Pa.) and Teddy Swanson (Glastonbury, Conn.) placed third with a time of 3:58.14. Jacques also won the individual events he participated in which were the 50-yd Freestyle, the 200-yd Individual Medley, and the 200-yd Backstroke. His time of 2:05.18 in the 200-yd IM set a new school record, beating the old one by over a second. Andersen would get a win in his individual event, the 200-yd Breaststroke with a time of 2:23.23 Teammates Austin Kelly (Portland, Conn.) and Kevin Danaher (Watertown, Conn.) placed second and third respectively in the 1000-yd Freestyle with times of 10:58.48 and 11:06.71. In the last relay event of the day, the team of Zach Gillespie (New Preston, Conn.), Dale Dubinsky (Plantsville, Conn.), Michael Nappi (Sherman, Conn.), and Alex Petre (White Plains, N.Y.) was able to win the 200-yd Freestyle Relay and earn valuable points towards the team total.
The team kept up the strong effort as they were able to sweep the 200-yd Freestyle. Placing first was Tim Ragan (Topsfield, Mass.), second was Dubinsky and Walerysiak finished in third. The team also swept the 50-yd Freestyle as well with Carlucci winning, Gillespie placing second and Nappi coming in third. Also earning points by winning both the one meter and three meter diving events was Joseph Mello (Seekonk, Mass.).
With the win the Men’s Swimming and Diving team’s record stands at 3-1. They look to continue their current streak of three wins on Saturday the 21st when they will host Bridgewater State College at 1:00 p.m.
