Women's Rugby falls to Coast Guard, 47-5
BRISTOL, R.I. - The Roger Williams University Women’s Rugby Club were overwhelmed by a tenacious Coast Guard side, losing the home opener 47-5. The loss marked the first time the Women’s Rugby Club had lost to Coast Guard since the club’s inception in ’06. With five rookies starting for the Hawks, Roger Williams was defeated soundly, losing to Coast Guard in nearly every phase of the game.
“We have some women on the field who have never even seen a rugby game before, so we have some growing to do,” said coach Tom Campbell.
The Hawks began to fight back in the 2nd half, scoring their lone try when outside center Brittany Gallin (Glen Rock, N.J.) kicked ahead, and inside center Brittany Vail dove on the ball in the end zone.
Next opponent for Roger Williams is URI, another Division III power.
