SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The Roger Williams University Women’s Cross Country team captured their 10^th TCCC title in a row as they narrowly edged out Salve Regina by just one point to get the victory.  Four Hawks runners finished in the top ten on their way to an impressive victory.

Senior Emily Tran (Sharon, Mass.) and Freshman Liliana Rutler (Wyckoff, N.J.) led the team finishing in third and fourth with times of 24:10 and 24:11.  Following close behind and finishing in seventh with a time of 25 minutes flat was Kaitlin Crowley (Beverly, Mass.).  Crowley passed two runners in the last 100 meters to get the best possible finish for the team.  Coming in 10^th overall was the fourth scorer for the Hawks, as Susan Thaxter (Pepperell, Mass.) came in with a time of 25:15.

The fifth and final runner for the Hawks realized just how important each point was.  Juliana Fernandes (Arnold, Md.) would pass a University of New England runner at the finish line to get the one point win over Salve Regina.  Fernandes finished in 15^th overall with a time of 25:35.

Coach Livingston said after the race, “It was awesome to win the championship again, especially the way we did it considering we were dealing with injuries all year. This year was the most gratifying win, because on paper we weren’t the favorites, and to do it again was amazing.”

Tran, Rutler, Crowley, and Thaxter were also recognized by the Conference for their efforts during the season.  The four of them received All-Conference honors for the TCCC.

Next up for the Cross Country team is the ECAC Championships hosted by Williams College on November 7^th.
