WENHAM, Mass. – The Roger Williams University Women's Cross Country team braved a wet and windy course at the Pop Crowley Invitational Saturday afternoon, bringing home a sixth-place finish.
Senior Emily Tran (Sharon, Conn.) paced all Hawk runners with a ninth-place finish, cracking the 20-minute mark at 19:30. Sophomore Kaitlin Crowley (Beverly, Mass.) and freshman Katie O'Koren (Franklin, Mass.) crossed the finish line next for the Hawks, placing 34th and 42, respectively. Crowley clocked in at 20:40 while O'Koren came in 16 seconds after.
The next three Hawk runners placed within five spots of one another, as senior Alyssa Donovan (Bridgewater, Mass.), sophomore Lauren Ashby (Manchester, N.H.), and Samantha Buechner (Nashua, N.H.) earned respective finishes of 52nd, 54th, and 57th. Donovan timed at 21:12, with Ashby coming in at 21:16 and Buechner at 21:16. Freshman Lauren Riccardi (Reading, Mass.) picked up 57 points for the Hawks with her 64th-place finish at 21:31.
“I thought the women ran well, about where I thought they were going to be,” Head Coach Sean Livingston said. “The conference is going to be stronger than it has ever been.”
Wellesley College won the invitational on the strength of four top-ten finishes, including Randelle Boots who won the invite for Wellesley in 18:55.
Roger Williams will be at the Westfield State College Invitational next Saturday at 12:00 p.m.
