BRISTOL, R.I. – Two members of the Roger Williams University Sailing team earned top honors for their performance this past weekend. Junior Cy Thompson (St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands) and sophomore teammate Kelly Stannard (Salem, Conn.) were named the New England Interscholastic Sailing Assocation’s Coed Sailors of the Week due to their strong showing at the Navy Fall Intersectional.
Thompson and Stannard won the “A” Division with five victories and seven additional top three finishes get a dominating victory against strong competition. Their performance put the Hawks in a great position to earn the win in the overall standings as they beat the second place team from Georgetown by 60 points.
These two and the rest of the team will be in action this weekend at several different regattas. The Hawks will be in New London Conn. from Friday to Sunday for the ICSA Sloop Championship at the U.S. Coast Guard Academy. The team will also be traveling to nearby Providence, R.I. for the Sherman Hoyt Trophy hosted by Brown in 420’s on Saturday and Sunday. The third event on the weekend is in Cambridge, Mass. for the Oberg Trophy at MIT hosted by Northeastern in three divisions of FJ’s and Tech’s. The fourth and final race for the Hawks is the Central Series Six at Boston College in 420’s in Boston, Mass.
