Sailing Team Set to Christen New Fleet on Friday

BRISTOL, R.I. - On Friday the Roger Williams University Sailing team will be holding a christening ceremony to give their new fleet a proper introduction to the waters of Mt. Hope Bay.  This marks a major milestone in the program's history as this is the first set of new boats acquired by the university.  Previously, a set of boats that were purchased from Connecticut College were in use.

The ceremony will begin at 5:00 p.m. on Friday evening at the Waterfront.  This is an open event to all that wish to attend.  If the weather does not cooperate the site will be moved to the Global Heritage Hall.  There also will be hors d'oeuvres served in the Global Heritage Hall following the christening.

The fleet consists of 18 new “Flying Jr.” (FJ) boats, the team has been racing with them since the start of the season.  The boats are made by Laser Performance which is in Portsmouth, R.I.

The Sailing team welcomes any and all to attend on Friday at 5:00 p.m. for this momentous occasion.
