Five Hawks earn TCCC awards

BRISTOL, RI – The Commonwealth Coast Conference has named five Roger Williams University athletes as Athletes of the Week. Three women have been named TCCC Rookie of the Week in their respective sports, as well as two other women capturing the title of TCCC Libero of the Week and Runner of the Week.

Freshman setter Emily Lebowitz (Coventry, Conn.) of the RWU Women’s Volleyball team has been named TCCC Rookie of the Week. She averaged 9.06 assists per set as she led the Hawks to a perfect 4-0 weekly record. Against Lasell, she racked up 27 assists, four digs, and two blocks in three sets. Lebowitz posted 31 assists, three digs, and two blocks against WPI. In the Rhode Island Tournament, Lebowitz collectively earned herself 87 assists, 10 digs, and one block. This marks her third TCCC Rookie of the Week award this season.

Junior libero Jill Hurd (Sunapee, N.H.), also from the women’s volleyball team, has been named TCCC Libero of the Week. During the Hawks’ perfect weekly 4-0 record, Hurd averaged an impressive 5.81 digs per set. In each of the four victories, Hurd accomplished more than 20 digs per match. Hurd posted 22 digs against Lasell, 20 digs against WPI, and collectively earned 51 digs in the Rhode Island Tournament.

Women’s tennis star Tracy Klein (New City, N.Y.) has been named TCCC Rookie of the Week, impressively winning all five of her matches. She aided the Hawks in a 2-1 weekly record as they claimed the number five seed in the upcoming TCCCC Championship. Klein earned two straight-set victories at #2 singles in a 5-4 loss to Nichols and an 8-1 win at Gordon. Klein partnered with Amanda Wolfe to earn a 3-0 weekly tally at #2 doubles.

RWU senior Emily Tran (Sharon, Conn.) of the Women’s Cross Country team has been named TCC Runner of the Week. Tran placed third at the James Earley Invitational hosted by Westfield State. She clocked a 5K time of 19:24:63. Her time was a bit over 27 seconds behind the medalist in the 266-person field.

Also from the Women’s Cross Country team, freshman Katie O’Koren (Franklin, Mass.) has been named TCCC Rookie of the Week. O’Koren finished an impressive 55th out of 266 runners at the James Earley Invitational. She recorded a 5K time of 21:37:07.
