Women's swimming and diving win 7th straight

BRISTOL, R.I.The women's swimming and diving team won its seventh-straight dual meet, Friday, defeating Eastern Connecticut State University, 142-120, at the Sports Center pool in Willimantic, Conn.

The Hawks recorded first-place in eight of the events including both relays. The Hawks set three school records on the night beginning with the meet's first race. With a time of 4:21.89 Sarah Beron (North Providence, R.I.), Ursula Nickerson (Torrington, Conn.), Caitlin O'Connor (Wallingford, Conn.) and Katy Friedrich (Stratham, N.H) swam the fastest 400 Yard IM Relay in school history.


RWU also took the closest finish of the night, as O'Connor beat the Warriors' Amy Arisco (Wallingford, Conn.) by 0.04 in the 100 Yard Butterfly. O'Connor also won the 200 Yard Butterfly for her second first-place finish on the night, setting a new RWU record with a time of  2:19.07.

Junior Casey Meagher (Billerica, Mass.) held her teammate O'Connor from a third first-place finish by just 0.42 seconds, as the two finished first and second, respectively, in the 100 Yard Freestyle.

Nickerson also registered a new school record in one of her two wins on the night. In the 100 Yard Breaststroke, she posted a record-time of 1:11.65 before also claiming victory in the 200 Yard Breaststroke.

The win moves the Hawks to 7-2 overall, while the Warriors fall to an equal 7-2. Eastern next hosts Western New England College, Wednsesday, at 7 p.m., while RWU travels to Trinity College, Saturday, for a meet beginning at 1 p.m.
