SOUTH HADLEY, Mass.- Roger Williams equestrian team members Lauren Rarich (Slingerlands, N.Y.) and Alicia Levy (Wantagh, N.Y.) capped their spring season with rides at the Zone 1 Championships held at Mount Holyoke College. Rarich finished fourth in intermediate flat, while Levy was eighth in walk-trot-canter.
Each of the Roger Williams riders faced off against the top riders in their division from across New England's four regions. Rarich, a senior, rode in the day's first flat class, and was called back in the top half of the class to test. The judge required each of the remaining riders to perform on the flat without stirrups. Rarich finished in fourth.
Levy, a freshman in her first year of competitive riding, also competed on the flat. Riding a difficult horse that had been used in more advanced divisions, Levy held her own, finishing in eighth place.
"Each of my riders rode really well," said Head Coach Eliza Davis. "They worked hard to get here," she added.
The Zone 1 Championship show marks the end of the season for the Hawks, as only the top two riders in each class advance to Nationals. Despite the graduation of seven seniors, Davis will retain a large contingent of the team for competition next fall.
