SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The Roger Williams University Women's Cross Country team ran to its ninth straight Commonwealth Coast Conference Championship with a win at the TCCC Invitational Saturday afternoon.
The Hawks cruised to the team title with 24 points, besting second-place Gordon by 32. Emily Bome (Syracuse, N.Y.) finished runner-up to Gordon's Hannah Matthews, with Bome clocking in at 24:12. With the second-place finish, Bome became a four-time all-conference honoree.
The Hawks swept second through fifth place, with Susan Thaxter (Pepperell, Mass.), Megan Fish (Vernon, Conn.), and Juliana Fernandes (Arnold, Md.), taking third, fourth, and fifth, respectively. Thaxter and Fernandes set new personal bests with times of 24:30 and 24:40, with Fish recording a time of 24:39.
Alyssa Donovan (Bridgewater, Mass.) took tenth place in 25:07 and joined Bome, Fish, Thaxter, and Fernandes on the All-TCCC team. Freshman Kaitlin Crowley (Beverly, Mass.) just missed qualification for the All-TCCC team by only three seconds, coming in 11th place in a time of 25:07. Her time was the third-fastest time recorded by a freshman during the race.
“Although it started with the two seniors, Bome and Fish, it was definitely a team effort,” said Head Coach Sean Livingston. “It was definitely the best team race I've ever seen during my time here. [Susan] Thaxter, Juliana [Fernandes] and Alyssa [Donovan] all just stepped up big time to be all-conference. They took it early and ran strong together strong.”
Next Saturday, the Hawks will be at their home course, Colt State Park, for the ECAC Championships.
