Men’s Tennis gets CCC Player of the Year & Coach of the Year among seven All-CCC selections

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – With the release of the All-Commonwealth Coast Conference team, the Roger Williams University Men's Tennis team have seven players chosen to the All-CCC team, including Zack Bussiere (Colchester, Conn.) as CCC Player of the Year and Head Coach Neil Caniga as CCC Coach of the Year.

Bussiere earned a spot on the All-CCC First Team - Singles, while Kevin Erikson (Tolland, Conn.) and Jason Pacino (North Reading, Mass.) paired up at All-CCC First Team – Doubles. Eric Laboissonniere (Cumberland, R.I.) and Taylor Webster (Bristol, R.I.) were each recognized as All-CCC Honorable Mention – Singles, while earning All-CCC Honorable Mention – Doubles honors were Bussiere and Laboissonniere, and Jonah Schwartz (Orange, Conn.) and Ryan Swanson (West Newbury, Mass.)

Bussiere, a sophomore from Colchester, Conn., was honored as CCC Player of the Year after producing an 11-5 overall record including a 6-3 record at No. 1 singles.  Bussiere also recorded a 2-1 record at No. 2 singles, a 1-0 record at No. 3 singles, and a 2-1 record at No. 4 singles for an 11-5 overall record, which included a 7-0 singles record in conference play.  In doubles competition, Bussiere teamed up with Eric Laboissonniere for a 9-2 overall record at the No. 2 (1-1) and No. 3 (8-1) positions including a 7-0 conference mark.  Bussiere was also named to the All-CCC first team his freshman year.  This season, the Hawks have posted an 11-6 overall record, and an 8-0 mark in conference play, earning them the top seed heading into the CCC Championship Tournament.

Caniga, who is currently in his fourth season as head coach at Roger Williams, was once again selected by his peers as CCC Coach of the Year.  This honor marks his third CCC Coach of the Year award in his four years at Roger Williams.  Caniga has coached the Hawks to another impressive season posting 8-0 conference record, earning the top seed in the upcoming CCC Championship Tournament.  Under Caniga, the Hawks have earned four straight CCC championship berths, including a CCC title during the 2010-11 season.

Erikson and Pacino compiled a 6-2 conference record playing together at #1 singles over the course of the season. Erikson enjoyed a strong spring campaign after missing last spring due to injury, while Pacino set the new school record for doubles wins in a career, currently standing at 50 victories.

Laboissonniere wrapped up a perfect 7-0 season at singles play in the conference, playing primarily at the #3 position. He finished his first season as a Hawk second on the team with 11 singles wins. Webster put together a 7-1 conference record on the season, alternating between the #2 and #3 positions. His ten singles wins on the season ties for third-best on the team.

At doubles, Bussiere and Laboissonniere led the team with nine wins together overall on the eyar, finishing the CCC campaign with an unblemished 7-0 mark at #3. Schwartz and Swanson together managed a 5-2 conference record, while finishing second on the squad with eight wins together, going 8-3.
