Trinity edges Men’s Swimming & Diving

HARTFORD, Conn. – The Roger Williams University Men's Swimming & Diving team suffered its second straight loss on Saturday, falling to Trinity College 131.5-156.5.

The Hawks took home six first-place finishes including an impressive win in the 400 Yard Medley Relay. Phillip Jacques (Durham, Maine), Eric Thurston (Wallingford, Conn.), Teddy Swanson (Glastonbury, Conn.), and Peter Walerysiak (Bristol, Conn.) finished with a time of 3.43.88 to hold off Trinity by seven seconds. Jacques also won the 200 and 50 Yard Backstroke finishing with times of 2:02.62 and 26.39, respectively. He also finished second in the 400 Yard IM with a time of 4:34.89. Walerysiak also took home first place in the 100 Yard Freestyle with a time of 50.05 seconds and second place in the 200 Yard Freestyle with a time of 1:53.96.

Zach Gillespie (New Preston, Conn.), finished first in the 50 Yard Freestyle with a time of 23.24 seconds and Adam Stanley (Litchfield, Conn.) also had a first-place finish in the 1 and 3-Meter Dive with scores of 233.32 and 213.66.

Swanson, Nick Velseboer (Marble Dale, Conn.), Anthony Vitale (Nashua, N.H.), and Christian Moran (Seekonk, Mass.) came in second place in the 400 Yard Freestyle Relay with a time of 3.27.38. Captain Jeremy Siegel (West Deptford, N.J.) also had a second place finish in the 50 Yard Breaststroke, coming in with a 29.03 time. Thurston finished second in the 200 Yard Breaststroke with a time of 2:17.76.

The Hawks drop to 4-4 on the season and will compete in the New England Diving Championships this weekend.
