Track & Field ends season at ECAC Championships

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Roger Williams University Track & Field team had six members between both the men's and women's team compete at the 2011 ECAC Championships, with the teams putting together a good showing.

On the women's side, Megan Breault (Agawam, Mass.) came in 25th place in the preliminaries of the 100 Meter Hurdles, clocking in with a time of 15.90. Though she fell shy of qualifying for the final heat, Breault set a new school record in the process, besting her own record set at the TCCC Championships April 30 by .01 seconds.

At the 4x100 Meter Relay, Breault, Meghan Krauss (Holliston, Mass.), Hannah Noel (Adams, Mass.), and Maria Lobalbo (Bethel, Conn.) placed 17th with a time of 50.61.

Evan Jones (Lexington, Mass.) competed in the Triple Jump for the Hawks as the sole representer for the men's squad. Jones ended the meet finishing eighth for RWU, going for a distance of 44' 10.25”. With his eighth-place result, he becomes the first track & field athlete in RWU history to receive All-ECAC honors.

Also competing for the Hawks was freshman Jon Pornelos (White River Junction, Vt.), who threw for RWU in the Javelin. Pornelos did not place as a result of fouls on three throws.

Ithaca College finished with 80.5 points in the two-day championship to win the women's meet, followed by Massachusetts Institute of Technology at 77.5 points, Tufts University with 54 points, and SUNY Cortland with 42 points. Bates College earned 63 points over the two days to capture the title for the men.

The meet closes out the 2011 season for Roger Williams, as the six men's seniors prepare for graduation on Saturday.
