Women’s Track & Field comes away with fifth at UMass-Dartmouth

NORTH DARTMOUTH, Mass. – The Roger Williams University Women's Track & Field team picked up a fifth-place finish at the Corsair Invitational, hosted by University of Massachusetts-Dartmouth Saturday afternoon.

Highlighting the Hawks' performance was Maggie Blinn (Billerica, Mass.), who broke her own school record in the 400 Meter Hurdles with a time of 1:09.6 and qualified for the New England Championships in the process. Blinn also finished fourth in the Triple Jump.

Kathryn Swanson (Stoneham, Mass.) ran a personal best in the 100 Meter Hurdles with a time of 17.34, placing her fourth. Katie O'Koren (Franklin, Mass.) took third place in the 800 Meter Run, coming in at 2:33.5. The 4x100 Relay Team placed third with a season-best time of 52.4.

Alexandra Honkala (South Royalton, Vt.) set a personal best in the 1500 Meter Run, finishing sixth in 5:13.9, while Anne Cassidy (Chelmsford, Mass.) finished fifth in the 400 Meter Run in 1:02.83.

"The meet went pretty well for the ladies today," said Head Coach Sean Livingston. "Maggie and Alexandra had the best races of the day with big PRs in their respective races. We were coming off a tough week of practice where we missed a couple of days of training due to the weather, which pushed back the hard workouts to later in the week so I think that had some effect on performances today. Improvement was made, however, and over the next three weeks we should be hitting our peak."

In the throws portion of the meet, Courtney Anderson (Palmer, Mass.) once again showed her versatility for the Hawks.  The freshman took fourth place honors in the Javelin, her best event with a toss of 101'11". She also had personal best marks in the Shot Put (27'8"), Long Jump (12'8"), and posted a season-best in the 200 Meter Dash with a time of 30.76.

"Things are really starting to look good with our heptathlon qualifying meet at Holy Cross coming up," said Throws and Multi Coach, Tom Conley. "She's getting better in every single event, every single meet. You can't plan it much better than that."

Roger Williams next competes at the Spring Invitational, hosted by MIT.
