Men’s Track & Field performs well at MIT

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The Roger Williams University Men's Track & Field took part in the Spring Invitational at MIT and had a good showing at the meet despite cold and windy conditions.

Dan Rathbun (Lakeville, Mass.) won his section of the 100 Meter Dash with a time of 12.07, while Dan Felleman (Medway, Mass.) finished third in 12.34. Also coming up with wins in the sections were Thomas Maybury (East Longmeadow, Mass.) and Justin Davis (Ashland, Mass.), who respectively won Sections 2 and 6 in the 400 Meter Dash with times of 55.65 and 52.90.

At the 1500 Meter Run, Brian Ki (Windham, Maine) placed first in his section, crossing the finish line in 4:38.25. Tim Clarkin (Coventry, R.I.) was runner-up at the 400 Meter Hurdles in Section 2, clocking in at 1:01.65.

Bronson Martin (Berlin, N.H.) also picked up a win at the Long Jump, clearing a distance of 19' 4.75” while Andrew Mirabito (Bay Shore, N.Y.) finished second in the Shot Put with a heave of 32' 7.75”.

In the Discus Throw, Emil Pornelos (Hartford, Vt.) placed fifth in the third flight with a New England Championship qualifying mark of 135' 2”.  He went on to take fourth in the third flight of the Shot Put at 42' 6.25”. and seventh in the second flight of the Hammer Throw with a mark of 137' 11”. 

“Today was big for Emil,” said Throws Coach Tom Conley.  “We've been looking to get him qualified for New England's in the discus and get that over with. With that monkey off his back, I think he'll settle in and put up some big numbers.”

Donovan Currier (Burilngton, Vt.) and Jon Pornelos (White River Junction, Vt.) also placed well for the Hawk throwers. Currier was second in the Hammer Throw with a distance of 120' 4” while Pornelos took third in Flight 2 of the Javelin Throw with a wind-hampered toss of 161' 3”.

Roger Williams competes at the Silfen Invitational next Saturday, hosted by Connecticut College.
