30th place for Women’s Cross Country and NCAA New England

BRUNSWICK, Maine – Taking part in the 2011 NCAA Division III New England Regional Championship, the Roger Williams University Women's Cross Country team ended the meet by taking 30th place overall within the field.

Jamie Wandzilak (Wantagh, N.Y.) and Alexandra Honkala (South Royalton, Vt.) were the first two Hawks to cross the line for Roger Williams, sfinishing back-to-back in 155th and 156th place. The pair finished less than half a second apart, with Wandzilak clocking in at 24:39.48 and Honkala at 24:39.84, both personal bests.

Meaghan Krasenics (Shelton, Conn.) followed for the Hawks in 165th place, coming in at 24:47.32. Kaitlin Crowley (Beverly, Mass.) placed 180th with a time of 25:01.87, with Katie O'Koren (Franklin, Mass.) followed in 182nd place. She finished with a time of 25:02.83. All three runners set new personal bests.

Lauren Ashby (Manchester, N.H.) and Kristen St. Pierre (Dracut, Mass.) wrapped up the Hawk scoring with finishes of 199th and 201st. The pair respectively had times of 25:20. 35 and 25:22.83. Ashby's time set a new personal record.

Middlebury claimed the overall team title with a score of 55. Chiara Del Piccolo of Williams won the individual title with a time of 20:52.43.

“We had five of our seven runners run, personal bests which is fantastic,” said Head Coach Sean Livingston. “We were hoping to finish closer to the top-25, but I'm happy with the individual times. Our four seniors all capped off their careers on a high note.”

Kaitlin Crowley and Lauren Ashby have run all four years and were an integral part of bringing home three Commonwealth Coast Conference titles. Meaghan Krasenics ran cross country her freshmen year and then took the next two years off. So for her to come back this year and be a top-five runner for the team was awesome. Alexandra Honkala has only been running cross country for two years and improved dramatically from last year. All of them have been a great and talented group.”
