BRISTOL, R.I. – Following a setback in week two with a loss to instate rival and nationally-ranked Salve Regina University, the Roger Williams University Men's Rugby team flew by central conference opponents Mass. Maritime Academy and UMass-Dartmouth.
On October 8th, the Hawks hosted Mass. Maritime in a sloppy but one-sided game. Roger Williams walked away with a 50-5 victory. The game was not cleanly played but it was clear that RWU was the better side. Mass. Maritime played hard but was not able to keep up with the speed in the Roger Williams backline or the dominance in set pieces by the Hawk forwards.
The next week Roger Williams keep up the winning ways against conference rival UMass-Dartmouth, a traditionally tough and gritty team. The Hawks executed their game plan brilliantly, coming away with the 48-5 victory.
“The score lines for the last two weeks were very similar but our performance against UMass-Dartmouth was significantly better than last week,” said Head Coach Chris Palombo. “We executed our game plan perfectly. It was exciting to see. These guys get it. We just need to keep taking steps forward so we can put ourselves in a position to play for our conference championship.”
A victory during the Homecoming Weekend Game vs. Wheaton on Saturday, October 22nd 11:00 a.m. will put RWU in the conference championship game.
