BRISTOL, R.I. – The Roger Williams University Women's Cross Country came away with a fourth-place finish Saturday afternoon at the Western New England University Invitational.
Freshman Jamie Wandzilak (Wantagh, N.Y.) finished first for the Hawks with a time of 20:31.56, good for 13th overall. Senior Lauren Riccardi (Reading, Mass.) followed Wandzilak in 18th with a time of 20:41.41.
“Jamie Wandzilak was in the top-10 for the first half of the race, then took a spill,” said Head Coach Sean Livingston. “She ran aggressively today and I thought she did a great job. Lauren Riccardi had her second strong race in as many weeks.
Freshman Jane Depgen (Orange, N.J.) placed 20th for the Hawks with a time of 20:48.72, while senior Meghan Krasenics (Shelton, Conn.) followed in 22nd with a time of 20:52.15.
Senior Lauren Ashby (Manchester, N.H.) came in 28th place (20:58.47), followed by juniors Katie O'Koren (Franklin, Mass.) in 32nd place (21:07.15) and Nina Groseclose (Baltimore, Md.) in 42nd place (21:34.97).
“We just missed getting into the top-3, which would have been nice. “I think we would have gotten there but a couple ladies had kind a tough go of it today. They'll bounce back and I'm confident we'll be ready to race well as the big meets approach.”
The Hawks will run its alumni race next weekend before hosting the Commonwealth Coast Conference Championship on October 29th.
