Third place for Men’s Cross Country

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The Roger Williams University Men's Cross Country team notched a third place finish Saturday afternoon at the Western New England University Invitational.

Freshman Kevin Terbush led the way for the Hawks, placing fifth overall with a time of 27:15.31. Sophomore John Ferguson (Bethel, Conn.) finished soon after, crossing the finish line in 12th with a time of 27:41.84.

Freshman Jack Dunleavy (Orange, Conn.) came in 19th for the Hawks in 27:54.18, while classmate Sean Doyle (Guilderland, N.Y.) placed 25th with a time of 28:14.78. Matt Carney (Canton, Mass.) was 43rd overall in the race, finishing in 29:15.47 with a personal best for the year.

"It was a good team finish today," said Head Coach Sean Livingston. "Kevin Terbush ran with the front group for the most of the race and got fifth overall. I was impressed with his tenacity; he was working hard but didn't give in."

"John Ferguson and Jack Dunleavy weren't too far behind and form a pretty good front three for us. Sean Doyle had a really good race as well. Matt Carney ran his fastest and best race of the year."

Joshua Lopes and Steven Carnevale (Easton, Mass.) were the final two scorers for the Hawks, placing 48th and 54th with respective times of 29:15.47 and 29:34.34

"We need to get our 1-5 and 1-7 split a bit closer in order to be where need to be for the conference meet and beyond, but I'm satisfied with the overall result."

The Hawks will run its alumni race next weekend before hosting the Commonwealth Coast Conference Championship on October 29th.
