Men's Rugby gets win over Wheaton

NORTON, Mass. – The Roger Williams University Men's Rugby Club earned a win over Wheaton College with a 34-17 victory.

Roger Williams dominated possession in this game.  With an altered style and a more forward focused game, Roger Williams was able to move into the Wheaton territory early posting a quick try. Pat Allen converted to kick, then a penalty goal moments later brought the score to 10-0.  After a turnover and a missed tackle, Wheaton posted their first score along with conversion.

Roger Williams immediately responded bring the score to 17-7.  With minutes left in the first half, Roger Williams posted another try off of a broken play and quick pass by Dylan Beck putting Joe Ross away in the corner. Pat Allen converted another kick to make the score 24-7 at halftime.

Turnovers hurt the Hawks at the beginning of the second half, allowing Wheaton to score on its second try. Roger Williams not playing to the whistle allowed the Lyons to gain significant territory.  The only player that did not stop on the field was the player that scored.

Roger Williams came back to score again with Dan Hanlon making a break through the defensive line and diving into the try zone. Another conversion was put in by Allen (20 points on the day).
