BRISTOL, R.I. – The Roger Williams University Women's Cross Country team took first place in the Roger Williams University Invitational this rainy Saturday afternoon at Colt State Park.
“It is great that we repeated as champions,” stated Head Coach Sean Livingston, “We've been doing a lot of heavy training.”
Training paid off for Emily Tran (Sharon, Conn.) who placed second out of the 99 female runners with the time of 20:14.77. Shortly behind her at 20:31.59 was Liliana Rutler (Wyckoff, N.J.) who received fourth place and four points for the team.
The next six Hawks to cross the finish line came in within the same minute, placing seventh, eighth, 13th, 15th, 17th, and 19th were Susan Thaxter (Pepperell, Mass.) with 21:12.50, Kaitlin Crowley (Beverly, Mass.) with 21:19.28, Alyssa Donovan (Bridgewater, Mass.) with 21:37.15, Samantha Buechner (Nashua, N.H.) with 21:46.97, Juliana Fernandes (Arnold, Md.) with 21:50.22, and Lauren Ashby (Manchester, N.H.) with the running time of 21:53.09.
Roger Williams obtained first place in the meet with 34 points and a total time of 1:44:55.77 and the average time of just 20:59.16. Salve Regina University took second place with 51 points and the total time just under two minutes more than the Hawks. At third was UMass-Dartmouth with the average of 21:54.52 and the total team time of 1:49:32.56.
The University of Massachusetts-Dartmouth will host the Hawks next Saturday, September 19th in North Dartmouth, Massachusetts in the Dartmouth Invitational beginning at 11:15 a.m.
