MANCHESTER, Conn. – Roger Williams University shortstop Grant Bolin (Simsbury, Conn.) went 1-for-3 Monday in his first game for the Manchester Silkworms of the New England Collegiate Baseball League.
Bolin began the game batting eighth in the lineup. After lining out second in his first at-bat, Bolin earned his first hit as a Silkworm in the fourth with a two-out single up the middle. Despite the hit, the Silkworms would go on to lose the game 1-6 to the New Bedford Bay Sox.
The rising senior signed with the Silkworms last week for the entire season, making him the second Hawk this summer to play for a team in the NECBL. Earlier in the month, teammate Zach Porter (Middleboro, Mass.) had a short stint with the Bay Sox.
Bolin, a 2009 All-TCCC First Team selection, enjoyed his best season as a Hawk this past year, batting .361 with nine home runs and 30 RBI, all career highs.
Bolin and the Silkworms will travel to play the North Adams SteepleCats tonight at 7:00 p.m. They’ll host the Bay Sox Saturday at 7:00 p.m.
