BRISTOL, R.I. – Vice President for Student Affairs John King has announced that Dave Kemmy, Assistant Athletic Director for Administration and Wrestling Head Coach, will be named the Interim Athletic Director of the RWU Department of Athletics, Intramurals and Recreation for the 2009-10 academic year.
“Dave Kemmy brings significant intercollegiate experience to this interim position and I am confident he will provide strong leadership,” said King.
“I’m excited and looking forward to the challenge,” said Kemmy. “I want to thank Vice President King for giving me the opportunity to continue some of the great things that are happening here. It’s a great staff and I’m looking forward to a very successful 2009-10 academic year.”
Kemmy will be in charge of directing and developing the University’s 20 athletic programs, as well as intramurals and recreational services. He will take over for former Athletic Director George Kolb, who vacated the position in February to accept the title of Assistant Vice President for Athletics Development at his alma mater, Villanova University.
Kemmy has spent the past 15 years as Assistant Athletic Director for Administration, responsible for coordinating all team schedules, travel, and game officials, in addition to his oversight of athletic budgets. He first came to Roger Williams in 1990 as the Director of Sports Information, Intramurals, and Recreation. He served as the first Head Coach of the Women’s Soccer program for five years before becoming the Wrestling Head Coach in 1994. Prior to RWU, Kemmy worked at Rhode Island College for six years as the Sports Information Director and Men’s Soccer Head Coach.
Kemmy will serve as Interim Athletic Director while continuing his duties as Wrestling Head Coach. The University will conduct its nationwide search for a full-time Athletic Director later this fall. The chosen candidate will begin their duties with an expected start date of July 1, 2010.
