BRISTOL, R.I.- The RWU Track and Field Teams competed in 10 events and set three school records at the weekend's New England Outdoor Championships held at Springfield College in Springfield, Mass.
Sophomore Thomas Maybury (East Longmeadow, Mass.) ran a personal best and set a new RWU record in the men's 3000 meter steeplechase with a time of 9:58.31 – good for 14th place.
Freshman Jamie Goodwick (Newtown, Conn.) placed 12th while establishing a new school record in the long jump, planting his heels at 21'4.25”.
The third RWU record was set by freshman Meghan Krauss (Holliston, Mass.), who finished just one slot out of the top-ten with an 11th-place finish in the 100 meter dash, crossing the finish line in a time of 13.13.
Krauss was also a part of the women's 4 x 100 relay which placed 14th with a time of 52.9. The full team of freshmen included Kristen Metcalf (Londonderry, N.H.), Maria LoBalbo (Bethel, Conn.), Lauren Sposato (South Salem, N.Y.)
Metcalf ran in three more events, placing 16th in both the 100 meter and 200 meter dash with times of 13.18 and 26.99, respectively. She also finished the 400 meter event in a time of 61.5 to place 17th.
The men's team also competed in the 4 x 100, posting a time of 47.01. The team of freshman Austin Bobrow (Rocky Hill), freshman Peder Jacobsen (Fairhaven, Conn.), sophomore Bruno Zuccolillo (Asuncion, Paraguay) and Goodwick placed 18th.
Bobrow also competed in the triple jump, landing in 19th place with a leap of 42'01”. Also in the field, freshman Brian Nelson (Stoughton, Mass.) finished 18th-place in the javelin throw, reaching a distance of 151'8”.
On the men's side, Williams finished atop the men team rankings, followed by MIT and Springfield. MIT's womens finished first, followed by Williams and Middlebury. Complete results can be seen by clicking here.
The New England Open Championships are next weekend, beginning Friday at 10 a.m., hosted by Amherst College.
