GALES FERRY, Conn. – Ten riders represented the Roger Williams University Equestrian team at the Zone 1, Region 1 Championship Saturday at the Mystic Valley Hunt Club.
Ashley Gagnon (Lunenburg, Mass.) finished as the only Hawk on the day that placed in the show, riding in Intermediate Flat and Novice Fences and Intermediate Flat and taking fifth and seventh respectively.
Alicia Levy (Wantagh, N.Y.) and Alyssa Schankman (Newtown, Conn.) each participated in Novice Flat, while Becky Bryant (West Boylston, Mass.) rode in Walk Trot. Kayla Waskiewicz (Bristol, R.I.) also took part in Open Flat for the Hawks.
Five Hawks took part in Walk-Trot-Canter, including Brittany Cornell (Rowley, Mass.), Olivia Cornell (Rowley, Mass.), Emily Hamilton (South Windsor, Conn.), Alicia Milch (Pelham, Mass.), and Megan Schiel-Logvin (Trumbull, Conn.).
“I think it was really impressive that we had almost half of our team qualify to ride at Regionals this year,” said junior Samantha Taylor (Essex Junction, Vt.). “Everybody worked really hard throughout the season and showed great improvements in their riding abilities.”
The participation at Regioanls concludes the 2008-09 season for Roger Williams.
